Campaign Story
Hello everyone its me Ashley! For those who I have not met I apologize, I have been on the West Coast being a starving artist for six years now. I graduated from Woodbury University in 2015, with a Bachelor's in Communications! I have also participated in many organizations, worked a ton of campus jobs, and joined a couple of societies. But to keep this somewhat short and sweet here is a link to my linkedin for more details of my accomplishments - Ashley Hackworth
Anyways I am rambling and sharing this post, because I just got accepted into a great school to continue my education. The school is University of Leeds in Yorkshire England. Yes England! I will be working towards my next degree in International Communication. But, don't worry it's a Master's, not a Bachelors (2015) or AA (2012)– been there done that.
You are probably wondering why I am going across the pond to obtain my masters and the reason is simply because, I want to work internationally. In order to do that I must create networks across the globe. Also, because I am studying International Communications and there is no better way to practice those skills, then being in an atmosphere different from your own.
With my degree I want to work in a media for social change type atmosphere, though on a global basis instead of locally. I want to take popular activities such as music festivals and promote global issues. For example: have my own Coachella and add booths that talks about immigration or global warming etc. The attendees will be able to see their favorite artist and participate in activities that changes the world. Instead of taking all proceeds for myself, some would be donated to global initiatives or charity participants. Music is used to end violence and create peace, now It will also encourage action. I really could make a difference with this unique route and get to take my love of helping people as well as music to new heights. I just need to gather more information, experience, and networks. In the end I will have my own Live event production firm that focuses on social change.
This will be my second time going to Europe, as I have study abroad in the Netherlands my 4th year of college. It was such a great experience and definitely changed my outlook on life, so I am definitely looking forward to doing it again – though in a different part of Europe. Now to get straight to the point, I have the finances that will cover my tuition, housing, as well as living abroad. I am now working on getting the last pieces together. That includes my official Bachelor's transcript, visa fee, health surcharge, and plane ticket. Living in Los Angeles, is pretty expensive so I know that I may not be able to cover everything alone, so I am applying for scholarships.
Although I am doing all these steps I wanted to see if anyone of you -family or friends would like to assist me with these costs? I mean anything counts! Including that dollar you use towards starbucks, in and out, acai bowls and hot cheetohs lol. Heck its cheaper and would be going towards assisting a student hoping to bring improvement to the world!
The total cost of the aforementioned fee's are listed below:
Visa app. fee: $435.00
Health Surcharge: $200 00
Housing Deposit: $270.00
I am hoping that you all could help me in anyway possible no matter the amount or etc. I appreciate you all and thank you for taking time to read this. I will also update weekly and hope you all
enjoy my posts!
