“Rowing is perhaps the toughest of sports. Once the race starts, there are no time-outs, no substitutions. It calls upon the limits of human endurance. The coach must therefore impart the secrets of the special kind of endurance that comes from mind, heart, and body. — George Yeoman Pocock”

Please help this young, determined U16 Rowing crew from King Edward VII school to realise their dreams and row on the Olympic course at Eton Dorney Lake in England!

The crew have been selected to represent SA Schools Rowing on their development tour to the UK in May. During the recent SA Schools Rowing Championship they won Gold in four of their races (Eight, Fours, Pair and Scull) as well as a Silver in the Quad. Three of these were new SA records and culminated in them being named the Best U16 Boys Selection and to represent SA schools U16 Boy's Development Squad. They achieved this through extreme dedication, commitment and hard work, including training for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. But now that they have been selected to SA Schools they need donations to send them on the tour. Any donations, big or small, will be a huge help to these young men.

On the tour they will compete at the Wallingford and Bedford Amateur Regattas. During the tour our athletes will be training and competing on the Eton Dorney Lake Course, the venue of the last Olympic Games and will also have the opportunity to be addressed by members of the current British national squad as well be exposed to some of the leading British Rowing Schools. The King Edward VII crew are hoping to achieve top results in the UK, which based on their excellent times for this season is a real possibility. We hope you can assist these young, possible future-Olympians in reaching their dreams.

  • If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream---and not make dreams your master; If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same:. If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings, And never breathe a word about your loss: If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much: If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son! by Rudyard Kipling
