A bicycle can be a toy, a hobby for the people in developed countries.

More than that, a bicycle can actually help the people in Marshall Islands and the environment.

World First Solo Female Bamboo Bike World Tour

I am Yanki, a graphic designer from Hong Kong. I am riding my handmade bamboo bike from Hong Kong to Norway. The trip was started on Mar 21st 2016 and it takes about 450 days, going through 23 countries with a total distance 19658km!

Why are you on this fundraising page?

This world tour is not simply a travel experience, it is also a cheerful experience for you and I.

I am cycling to purchase 400 quality bicycles and deliver to Majuro, Marshall Islands. The bicycles will be given to Marshall Islands Baninnur - a local community who 100% knows their need. Marshall Islands Baninnur has decided to give away the bicycles to public school children who cannot get to school when their parents cannot pay for transportation and to a women’s organisation that is combatting domestic violence.

Why Majuro, Marshall Islands?

Marshall Islands, a country in the center of Pacific Ocean, a country suffers from climate change.

Majuro is the capital and the largest city of Marshall Islands, with only one 48km long road. Students need to walk 6km to school, or alternative option is to take taxi but it will use up their daily expenses. Because the country is poor, the soil is infertile, the least expensive and most eaten food there is white rice, contributing to the high rate of diabetes.

Bicycles can increase Marshallese’s mobility and also promote exercise which helps to lower the diabetes rate.

We are looking for quality used bicycles in Portland Oregon?

Our original plan is to purchase quality refurbished bicycles from Mae Sot, Thailand, plan had to change because we couldn’t look for a shipping company that could ship from Bangkok to the Marshall Islands. Eventually, we found a shipping company in Portland, Oregon, that is providing a discount to ship the bikes. Small Islands - an NGO in Portland Oregon is helping to look for suitable bicycle suppliers.

We still need your help! If anyone who want to donate used bicycles or have contact with second hand bicycles supplies in Portland Oregon, US, please kindly contact me - Yanki: [email protected]

How we use the funds?

200,000HKD (25,750USD) = 350-400 Bicycles (FUNDED!!!!!!!!)

The following are also includes:
Shipping fee from Portland Oregon, USA to Majuro, Marshall Islands
Taxes (Product + Shipping)
Wages (Bicycle quality check)

A 40 foot shipping container can put up to 500 bikes. If we raise more than target - 200,000HKD, we will either purchase more bicycles or accessories.

* Marshall Island Baninnur is fund raising the shipping from Oregon to Marshall Islands
* Cost will change depends on the international rate, bicycle suppliers and government

What have we done so far?

We have successfully raised 200,000HKD (25,700USD) in a February charity sale event in Hong Kong by selling Chinese New Year Monkey Cookies and Belacan sauce, also with friend's, Fung Foundation's support and Li & Fung's - Mr William Fung's donation.
