Campaign Story
Sad to say that Little Man passed away at the vets office at 7 AM this morning his heart just gave out. He was a fighter and had the will to live, so i had to keep going in hopes that he would go into remission.. I loved him so much, there will always be an empty spot left in my heart.
You love all your animals and when some of them get sick and you have to care for them you create an even bigger bond. When he was little he got pneumonia and it took all he had to get through that and then as things are never simple he ends up with phemigus vulgaris the worst of auto immune that any dog can get..
He is no longer sick or in pain he crossed the rainbow bridge and now can run an eat and play. Please say a prayer for him.
I'm heading to the vets office now to say my last good buy give him a hug and then send him out for cremation so that he will always be in this house,

Little Man has a rare autoimmune,Pemphigus Vulgaris. It took over 3 months for the Vet to figure out what was wrong with him. He went in for a Dental and for a 3 3/4 year old dog to have 15 abscessed teeth and ulcers all over his mouth was something strange, the remaining 10 teeth were in very good shape.
He seemed to be fine for the first 10 days, after that he would get sicker and sicker. After many trips to the vets office and a Bunch of medications; Antibiotics and steroids he would seem to get better and then take a turn for the worse when medication was stopped.
The vet suggested to do a mouth culture, the results came back and he had MRSP which is the dog form of MRSA. We started treating him with the medications that were sent back as the best treatment option. He was on three rounds of Amikacin and steroids. (which is very hard on the liver and kidneys) They said we could test the blood to make sure that everything is OK.
After the first round we tested the blood and his liver enzymes and white count were off the charts. So we had to stop giving the steroids and do a different antibiotic. He seemed better for a short period of time then started going down hill once again. so anther round of Amication and then another.
He just kept getting sicker and sicker so i called the Bella Moss Foundation for MRSA in dogs. Got referred to one of there vets in Canada to talk about his condition, I emailed all the test results and medications that Little Man had been on, told him i felt that he had the MRSP. He emailed me back and said i was right.
Trying to get a vet from Canada and one from California to get in touch with each other over the Christmas holidays was not simple task. I just kept my hopes up.
The day after new years i take Little Man back to the the vet's office because every bite of soft food he ate made him cry in pain, he kept eating no matter how much it hurt.
That morning at the vets office a call came in from the vet in Canada. WEEEEE I was so happy that we may get to the bottom of this. After they talked my vet said that it was suggested to do a biopsy of the sores in his mouth, So i left him there, when they put him under to do the biopsy my vet noticed that the remaining 10 teeth were all abscessed (that is why he was crying while eating) So he pulled the teeth out, i went the next day to pick him up and he seemed better than he had in a long time.
A few days later he got a real bad ear infection, it came on over night, his ears were full of puss it was so bad i had to get some ear cream. It took over an hour with a warm wet rag to get all that mess out before i could put the cream in, The hole time i was cleaning he was enjoying every minute of the relief he was feeling.
The biopsy comes back, he has a very rare autoimmune,Pemphigus Vulgaris. this attacks his own body. He has sores all over and in his ears,
This once beautiful dog is now full of sadness waiting every day for all the medications he has to take. He is Taking 2 immune sup-resents at different times during the day, steroid, anti nausea drug, antibiotics and Nutra-Cal (he was not eating very well.)
I would like to take him to a Pet Dermatologist which i think would better understand this Pemphigus, but the cost is way to high, i have depleted all my funds trying to get him well and he will be needing many more blood tests until we can get the medication right. The medications alone are very expensive.
My vet is doing a good job working with him, but i think someone that deals with this type of problem may have a much better understanding as to what and how medications can help him.
He is such a sweet dog, not a mean bone in his body he has the will to live and looks at you with the big brown eyes as if to say help me, Finely got him to start eating little by little. They say that they can go into remission once the medication is correct that is what i'm so desperatley hoping for soon.
Thank you for all your help and support.
