Campaign Story
Providing logistics support for L'Auberge Des Migrants/ Help Refugees warehouse who are working with the residents of the Jungle refugee camp in Calais.
Specifically for the Food Distribution Unit, but elsewhere as needed.
Driving donations from the UK to the warehouse, and out again to distribution in the camp. A regular collection of food is going from Cambridge via the Daily Bread and the van is used every day for taking in the food orders.
While I can cover my food and accommodation during my time in Calais, I need to return to the UK once a fortnight for work. Im raising money to help with ferry crossings, diesel and to have funds available to buy necessary items as they are needed.

Job Role...
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 09:28 pmHaving planned to just drive the vans as needed I have instead found myself absorbed into the bosom of the Fabulous Food Sisters, or more formally - Tina's team of dry food distribution in Calais Kitchens!Still driving vans, alongside making up packs to take food to the community kitchens, families,. . . . .
Anonymous sponsor!
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 09:05 pmA donation of £370 was made today, along with a cupboard-full of beans, tomatoes, fish and chick peas! That's enough money for three return crossings, fuel and Euros on the Sainsbury's Currency Card which we can use to buy emergency food as its needed. And perfect food donations.Really touched by your consideration.Thank
Cash Donation and Ethiopian spices!
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 08:52 pmThanks so much Andrew Bailey for your donation and the spices, here's how much your cheeky pennies added up to and converted into Euros...! I didn't get a picture of the spices as they went straight out to the Oramo tribe living in the camp!we were short on stock for
Family Packs
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 10:09 amIf you want to send pre packed food, it saves us time making the packs and they are always needed. The image below shows the contents list on some beautifully put together Family Packs sent in by a lady last week. The list helps us know that the pack is
Food distribution
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 10:02 amI couldn't stay away for too long, so stopped off for a couple of days in the new year and the change to the systems is immense! Each area has sectioned off into an efficient unit, and is refining their process. I was driving the big truck for community food. . . . .
Currency Passport
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 11:11 amI have opened a currency passport account with sainsburys which appears to be the most effective way of converting cash and using euros abroad. This can also be loaded from the UK and the account accessed in France, with no extra cost and a good exchange rate, bypassing international transfer
Cash 4 Clothes
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 11:09 amIf donations are not able to be used, ie dresses/smart shoes/suits etc, they can be returned to the UK to be exchanged for cash. In Cambridge there is a very good rate of 50p/kilo. On my last return the van full weighed 270k which gave us £135.Below is the info
Amnesty International - Bury St Edmunds
Update posted by SJ Rogers at 10:46 amA cash donation of £50 was raised by the Bury St Edmunds Amnesty International group on the 8th December, at a talk raising awareness of the camp. Many thanks to their interest and support
