This is a story of a father who won’t be getting off work early, frantically trying to find that last toy on the list. This father won’t text the pictures to grandpa of the kids in the school holiday program. This father won’t be home for Christmas. This father will be spending this Christmas in jail. And you ask why this father won’t be home for Christmas & what horrible deed did he do to end up in jail??...because this father was protecting his children from a person who brutally abused one of his children. This father has been wrongfully accused & incarcerated while the abuser is merrily spending his Christmas free to continue the abuse of more children!

This father is my nephew Je’on who is a devoted, hardworking and loving dad. I raised Je’on and I can definitely say that he is a loving, kind and gentle parent. He loves his children and he spends whatever free time, money etc. on his children. But he is currently incarcerated because he protected his child from further abuse.

It all started with an extended visit with a family member. Je’on’s 5 year old child was brutally beaten by a family member’s boyfriend. The child has lasting permanent scars which indicate that the beating/beatings were frequent and severe. As typical in an abusive situation, the child, being fearful of repeated beatings, did not tell of the abuse, so a sibling relayed the frightening details. Once Je’on became aware of the abuse, he took steps to remove and protect his children from the environment and the abuser/perpetrator.

So while Je’on’s children will not have a merry Christmas due to this injustice, the serial abuser is merrily walking free among us continuing the abuse of children.
