Campaign Story
What's the problem we're trying to solve?
Even though the situation at Traiskirchen is becoming better due to the faster rate of transfers out of the camp, people at Traiskirchen are still living in very hard conditions. In addition, many refugees in Vienna are homeless at the moment. They are mainly in need of housing but we can still help them with collections. We are also collecting jackets, warm shoes, toiletries (deodorants, toothpastes, WC paper, shower gels, shampoos), jeans, nappies, pajamas, pushchairs, and fast snacks.
Why do we care about this?
We have seen that despite the amount of help provided to refugees already, far more help is urgently needed. Even though refugees at camps are provided with three meals a day, they only receive 40 EUR a month to cover any other costs. Space is very limited and many new arrivals are often registered for documentation purposes but cannot be allocated a bed. Children and adults can be seen walking around without jackets or warm shoes and sleeping on the streets.
How will the money be spent?
Once the fundraising has finished, we will post pictures of all the receipts. Essentially, we will use the money to buy hygiene products, bags, clothes and some toys. If we find housing for refugees and we will not be free to take them to the potential home, we might use it for their transport. We will distribute the goods ourselves at Traiskirchen and in Vienna as necessary.
When will supporters see the difference?
We will post pictures of the receipts and we will also do a breakdown of the number of goods bought for refugees at Traiskirchen and in Vienna. You can also join us in redistributing; you will surely see the difference by talking to the refugees and seeing their satisfaction when they receive the necessities.
Other ways you can help:
- You can also donate any unneeded clothes and shoes you have at home. You can either bring these items to us at the Vienna International Centre or to our home address in the 22nd district of Vienna. If you have a lot of items to donate and do not have a car, we can try to arrange a pick-up of the items. People especially need warm clothes, jackets, jeans, hygiene products, nappies and shoes. Please no summer clothes nor sandals.
- If you have a spare room you would like to rent to a refugee, please let us know. We are working with a few people from http://www.fluechtlinge-willkommen.at/and from http://diakonie.at/wohnraumspende who help find housing for refugees.
- Please pass this message onto anyone you know who would like to help.
Thank you :-)
