As Salam U Alaikum,

My name is Saqib Ahmed Qureshi, before November 12 2012 I had a perfect life. Wife, Sadia Qureshi, and two children aged 6 daughter ,Zoya Qureshi, and aged 10 son, Humza Ahmed Qureshi. My wife and I both worked hard to keep our life happy and make sure we always protected and raised our children accordingly. We always turned to Allah for our needs, he always returned in kind.

Zoya was recovering from a dangerously high fever that had made her 3 hospital trips between 8 to the 10th on November 2012. She recovered from that and was well on Saturday and sleepier then usual on Sunday 11 November 2012. She went upstairs put on her clothes and when we put her to put she told us the same thing she always did as long as she could speak: Shab A Khair, love you, see you in the morning. We were relieved her fever was gone and she was well.

How little we know of the future just a few hours ahead. Zoya would never wake up and our lives have been torn apart since.

On Nov 12 2012 I went to work and got a call from Sadia that Zoya was not waking up and had a seizure. By the time I made it home Zoya had been taken by ambulance to Hospital where she had another seizure. She was transfered to Sick Kids that evening and slowly progressed into non stop seizures. After that day it was a constant battle between seizures, dangerous aneasthetics and trying to get the abnormal brain activity to subside. Sick Kids tried to do all kinds of tests to see what was happening but found nothing. Zoya was given the death sentence by her doctors three times. Once they even asked us to stop treatment so Zoya could 'pass away peacefully'. We asked them to keep trying and leave it to Allah. Leave it to Allah. Doctors kept telling us she had unrecoverable brain damage, we kept telling them to keep trying as long as there was a chance we could help her recover.

All November I begged Allah to spare her not in a selfish way for us but so that we could raise her and make her a good muslim that would constribute to our communities that live in non muslim lands. So that she could raise a muslim family one day and ...there are lot of things I asked of Allah. I understood how small I was and how hopeless the doctors said our daughters contidtion was. They said even if she survived she would be in a vegatative state forever. That she would still not survive. All Decemeber we were assaulted with this idea. All December I asked them to treat her unknown disorder the best they could and leave it to Allah.

In this time Zoya got a trachestomy. Were moved to neurology on Dec 28th. 2012. She seemed to be controllable but still siezed a lot. She didn't gain conciousness and kept us on our toes. We were told to keep her nutriutional needs she would also need a g-tube. So we waited untill she got the G-Tube. She seized and we were now told she was well enough to goto Bloorview Kids rehab.

We were sent there on Feb 26th 2013.

Some days it seems like Zoya is getting better others it seems like she is getting worse. Infection come and go and complicate things. Thankfully she settles. No one can tell how much brain damage has occured untill she comes to. She is however still on a lot of very powerfull anaesthetics that keep her sedated. It's an impossible catch 22 that only slow weaning of her medication can resolve. It' is a very rough journey since the underlying problem was never found.

Sadia has not been to work since 12th November 2012, I had to go to work after three weeks. It's almost impossible to function sometimes but we take it day by day. Bloorview allows Zoya to come home on the wekends in her comatose state. She opens her eyes somtimes but we don't know if she can comprehend what is happening. My son Humza is just happy she is still alive. We all are. We thank Allah all the time and ask him for his help.

Zoya will be in this condition for an extended period of time untill her drugs are sorted out. We will need a porch lift or ramp and a chair lift installed and basement finished in our home to keep Zoya's at home and safe. If she is to recover from this all of this would cost up to $40000 dollars. She is on a ketogenic diet that costs $700 / month and drugs that we are still not sure the cost of.

We ask Allah but now we also ask from our community to open thier hearts to support Zoya. We are his ummah and support each other. I never thought I would be taking from the bag I used to put into , but we are asking for Zoya's sake in the name of Allah.

Please donate generously. You could also Email Money Transfer if it's easier to [email protected].

Thank you.

Wheelchair van purchased

Update posted by Saqib Qureshi at 08:13 pm

Thanks to brothers and sisters who assisted us in the first campaign we were able to raise enough for a second hand wheelchair van. We need funds to help make our home more accessible to her and pay for her medication and feeding supplies. This involves getting our basement retrofitted
