Malika Ben Allal, Mehdi El Ghaly, and Jawad El Bied of Hikayat Morocco have been invited to perform at the Scottish International Festival from October 22nd to November 1st. This will be their first opportunity to travel to the UK as well as their first time participating in an internationally renowned festival with many experienced storytellers from around the world. Please support Hikayat Morocco with a donation of $100, $50, or $25 to ensure that Malika, Mehdi and Jawad are able to take part in this incredible learning opportunity.
Your donation will help to cover the costs of round trip flights to Edinburgh, where the festival will be held and their food and transportation expenses in Edinburgh. They will be flying budget airlines and preparing their own food to cut costs because this experience means so much to them!
Here is their schedule of performances during the festival:
October 23: Eyemouth Primary School Festival (Eyemouth)
October 24: Festival on Tour: An Afternoon at Jemaa el-Fnaa Square (Alloa)
October 25: Storytelling for a Greener World (Edinburgh)
October 25: An Afternoon at Jemaa el-Fnaa Square (Edinburgh)
October 26: Open Hearth (Edinburgh)
October 27: Festival on Tour: An Afternoon at Jemaa el-Fnaa Square (Dundee)
October 28: Kingdom Tales: Stories without borders (Dunfermline)
October 29: Open table (Edinburgh)
November 1: Open hearth: Quaich (Edinburgh)
In addition to performing alongside Scottish and English storytellers, the Hikayat Morocco storytellers will learn from raconteurs hailing from Syria and other parts of the world. Their travel throughout Scotland (as well as their accommodations will be provided by the festival). This will be a learning experience for Malika, Mehdi, and Jawad that they would not find in Morocco. They have worked so hard to share Moroccan culture with others and this opportunity will give them access to the cultures of others. Their time in Scotland will allow them to develop as performers and to consider the ways that Hikayat Morocco may grow to serve more young Moroccans.
