Hello,
My name is David and I'm hoping you can consider aiding my family in helping to cover a recent veternarian bill for my best friend, Logan, whom I've had since he was a puppy and who currently is enjoying his retirement years of being a cock-a-poo at age fifteen. As I'm writing this he recently had a full teeth extraction done, due to dental decay. We at first were told it was going to be twelve teeth being pulled, but I received a call from the good vets at Amherst Veterinary Hospital in Scarborough, ON that it had to be a full extraction, due to the extent of the decay and his age. I've been assured that with the full extraction he will be feeling much better and may even get more of a spring in his step as the pain recedes. Although I don't think he'll be getting any more hard kibble.
The Problem & Cost
While this is good news, the timing could not have been worse as I am currently unemployed (the store location I worked at had closed and would not transfer me to another location or since hire me back) and have been unable to find work, add to that my wife's business is going through a very slow period which at the moment is our only source of income.
The estimated costs for the procedure was $1179.90 to $1539.24 cdn. This covers a number of items during the surgery including: Procudure, hospitalization, anaesthetic, IV fluids, dental nerve block (multiple), dental extractions, dental radiology (Full Mouth), and misc. meds and blood tests (to examine if the bacteria from the decay had reached the blood stream, thankfully it came back negative). When I received the call that it would be a full extraction and it was taken longer then anticipated another $500 was added to the high end of the cost bringing it to 2106.93. Not including costs already paid for the initial appointment, meds and blood work which was a little over $400.
It's hard for me to ask for charity, but that is what its comes to as neither of us have extra resources to fall back on. Anything that can be donated to help off-set the costs would be greatly appreciated and would go strictly to cover his medical bills and his comfort. If the goal is surpassed any surplus will go towards his previous bill paid via credit card. He's been a constant part of our lives, always quick to comfort us when we aren't feeling well, keeping the cats in check or just generally smiling at us (yes, he smiles!). We just wanted to do what was best for him to ease him into his golden years as waiting any longer could have seriously endangered his life.
Thanks for taking the time to listen.

Doing well.
Update posted by David Schmitt at 12:25 pmAfter Logan's last visit he still doing fine, the vet noticed a drop in weight since the operation and diet change, so he is getting extra snacks and mini-meals throughout the day, in order to restore him to a proper weight. He doesn't mind this situation at all. My wife, Sara
Off the Meds
Update posted by David Schmitt at 01:19 pmHey all. So Logan got off his meds Tuesday evening. He seems to be doing fine, though a little less active. I don't know if that's because of the painkiller withdrawl or the cold weather we've been having lately. I've decided to give everyone who donated a thank-you email with
Vet Check-up
Update posted by David Schmitt at 01:11 pmLogan visited the vet on Friday. Is progress is doing well, sutures in place and temperature normal. Still ultra sensitive around his mouth, we had a hard time getting him to stay still. Last night and this morning we went for extra long walks, twice the length he was willing to
Logan's Progression
Update posted by David Schmitt at 01:18 pmFeeling Better Hey folks, just wanted to give a small update on Logan's condition. Right now my toothless pup is on three meds, two antibiotics and one pain killer which we've had no trouble in dispencing to him. He loves his new soft food diet. His first two nights home. . . . .
