Richard, Keiran & Alfie Robson are a young family with a dream of opening an ecologically responsible fishing and arts lodge in the South Island of New Zealand.  

About us…

Richard currently works in Training & Development in the TV broadcasting industry but has a lifelong passion for fishing and living a sustainable lifestyle. This passion was fostered at a young age through fishing trips with his father and spending his formative years moving from the Lakes District in his birth country of Great Britain, first to Australia’s beachside suburbs of Sydney then to East Java in Indonesia, back to Sydney and now to the Southern Highlands of NSW.

Spending several seasons as a fishing guide in Alaska has developed his love of the outdoors and his interest in sharing his knowledge even further. He also has a long history as a successful tournament angler representing some of the industry’s biggest equipment manufacturers in competitions throughout Australia. 

Keiran is currently on maternity leave from her position heading up the customer service team at one of Australia’s leading artisan bakeries. She has had over 20 years experience in customer service and hospitality management in Australia and the UK.

With sidesteps including office administration management, operating her own retail store in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs (specialising in handcrafted items such as her own silver jewellery range alongside a variety of work from other artisans), founding a successful Facebook based parents group in the Southern Highlands and recently launching Ask Alfie - her own consulting business.

Alfie is a feisty 8 month old, born under difficult circumstances in July 2013 and is the inspiration behind Keiran & Richard’s dream.

Wyndham Lodge is the name of the property where the Robson family lived when Richard was born and we plan to name our property after it.  

About our dream…

After several memorable holidays in New Zealand together (after many earlier trips Richard had made with his father) touring around the South Island in a campervan, experiencing the joys of staying in both commercial campervan parks with full amenities and DOC (Department of Conservation) sites with the bare basics, we have decided that is where we would like our son to grow up. We also want to move away from the corporate worlds where we now work to focus on living a more sustainable, slower lifestyle rather than 9-5 office jobs with additional hours of commuting every day.

To enable us to do this we have a plan of establishing a business providing quality family friendly self catered accommodation facilities with guided fishing tours focusing on sustainable catch and release practices, conservation and environmental awareness as well as arts & crafts workshops delivered by local artisans, for those not interested in fishing.  

Help it come true…

To enable us to achieve our dream we need help with the initial purchase of a property, we have some funds - but not enough.

We have extensively researched properties over the last few years and are looking at a modest purchase price of approximately $200-300K, this amount would get us a decent sized block of land with an established residence for ourselves as well as self-contained B&B style accommodation with the opportunity to expand as the business grows while still maintaining privacy for ourselves, our guests and our neighbours.

Any funding above our target and eventual purchase price will go towards our relocation costs and provide us with funds to support us as we establish our business.  

We are confident that with Richard’s knowledge of the NZ lakes and river systems, his experience as a qualified trainer and guiding fishing tours, coupled with Keiran’s extensive hospitality knowledge we will select a property in a perfect location and establish a successful business.
