Campaign Story
(Thanks for visiting my son, Alex's GoGetFunding site. He is under 18 so I have to own the site on his behalf). This is what he has to say:
So what is this all about?
I am planning to go on a fantastic “Expedition of a lifetime” to Ecuador with Reading School in 2016. It will involve high altitude trekking (including a trek to the top of the tallest active volcano in the world, Cotopaxi (5987m)). We will also be immersing ourselves in local culture and undertaking a community project in one of the poorer rural villages. I can’t wait!
How much do I need to raise?
Having committed to the trip, now all I have to do is find nearly £4,000 to pay for it! I have already raised over £1000 by doing odd jobs for friends and family and will continue to do so, and birthday and Christmas money will also go toward the expedition, but that will still leave a gap of about £1600. So Dad (Andy) came up with “What about cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats (aka “LEJOG” or End to End or E2E) for our summer holiday this year – surely that is a challenge which people will be prepared to sponsor?” Why did I let him talk me into it?!?!?
The Challenge
So we will be undertaking this gruelling, 900-mile challenge over 14 days, from 8th to 21st August 2015 - meaning I'll be 14 when I start and 15 when I finish! On an average day we will be covering about 65 miles. We will be staying with friends and relatives when we can, and youth hostels and B&Bs when we can’t. My mum (Rachel) and sisters (Sophie and Harriet) will be supporting us for most of the first week, and my Grandad and his friend Otti doing the same role for the second week, mainly in Scotland.
On the way...
We will be seeing some of the most beautiful parts of England, including the Cornish Coast, Dartmoor, the Somerset Levels, Wye Valley, Welsh Marshes, Cheshire Plain, Forest of Bowland and the Lake District. Then to Scotland, through Glasgow via the Clyde towpath and out to Loch Lomond, through the Highlands, along the banks of Loch Ness to Inverness before the final two stages to John O’Groats. Apparently the last leg is the best of all, including a long downhill section under the shadow of Ben Klibreck followed by the up and down road that follow the North Coast to our final destination.
I must be nuts!
I know it is going to be difficult, but I am looking forward to the stunning views, meeting up with friends and relatives and the satisfaction of completing this challenge at my age – one for the CV! This is the second such ride I have undertaken, having completed the Coast-to-coast with Dad 4 years ago, aged 10.
Please sponsor me
I hope you will feel able to sponsor me. Whilst I am not directly raising money for Charity, a third of the expedition is spent undertaking a much needed community project. Also, Mum and Dad are committed to donate the equivalent of 25% of the money I raise (from their own pocket) to Young Minds, a charity which focuses on the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people, once the £800 half-way total has been realised.
Thank you
Thank you for reading this, and thank you even more for your kind donation!

LEJOG Round up
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 11:17 amHi,This will be my last update for our LEJOG adventure. This is my ?statistical summary? ? in your mind please read it out in a dramatic movie-reading-things-out-man voice.Over the last two weeks, Dad and I have cycled 980+ miles over a fourteen day period, cycling for just over 73 hours. . . . .
LEJOGER Day 14 (of 14)
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 10:40 pmHi, We have now cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats. This last day has been one of the most difficult days of them all, but also fantastic and obviously the most rewarding stage. The first 30 miles were absolutely brilliant, a very gentle downhill gradient coupled with great scenery over. . . . .
Day 13 - The Penultimate One!
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 08:58 amDuring today's ride nothing really happened so I'll go over the few things that did, then talk a bit more about other, more interesting things. The ride consisted of a few large, but non-aggressive climbs, followed by short, exhilarating descents. There was a generally excellent road surface which helped make. . . . .
LEJOG Day 12
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 08:39 pmHi,Sorry to disappoint you, but today was a little anti-climactic. I'm sure you can guess why, but we'll get onto that later. Today was more or less dominated by Lochs - cycling along Loch Eil from Glencoe to Fort William, Loch Lochy between Forts William and Augustus and of course,. . . . .
LEJOG Day 11
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 08:53 pmHi,Today was shorter than yesterday, but slightly more hilly, although the gradient map looked the exact opposite of the last two days: completely flat to start with, then a big hilly section. However, the hilly half was actually more up and down. We started in Balloch, cycling around Loch Lomond,. . . . .
LEJOG Day 10
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 09:55 pmHi,Yesterday I told you that today was our longest day, and was 83 miles long. It turns out I was wrong. That route was one including the alternative route that started with a longer detour that avoid the hills, which, not being wimps, we did not take. Because of that,. . . . .
LEJOG day 9 (wow!)
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 05:17 pmHi,Today marked the start of a return to tougher cycling... Supposedly! However, today seemed really good, perhaps because I've got so much fitter over the weeks. And Dad hasn't, so I look really good compared to him! The day started with a very long climb (15 miles) out of Keswick,. . . . .
LEJOG day 07
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 03:11 pmSorry this one's late - I told dad to do it!Hi,I am writing this update with the sincere fear that I will catch pneumonia. This sounds familiar...? Actually it wasn't too bad, after the first 2 hours or so of absolutely miserable conditions. We set off at about 9 am,. . . . .
15th August
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 09:06 pmHi,First thing I would like to say is: Happy Birthday to me! It's been a great day, although it actually started (celebrations wise) yesterday night, roughly a day before I actually turn 15 at 8 o'clock tonight. We were staying at Janet and Satish's, who are good friends of Grandad's. . . . .
Day 6, 13th August
Update posted by Andy Osborne at 09:22 pmHi, Today was, in all honesty, easier than yesterday! However, it took a lot longer because it was the longest cycle either of us had ever done, at a whopping 80 miles! We started off the day by cycling into Shrewsbury for breakfast, as we wanted to start very early. . . . .
