Campaign Story
This is Beatrice.
She's a 4 1/2 lb. Pomeranian and she's about 7 years old. She had a rough first 4 years of her life being mistreated by a breeder until she was rescued by an agency. I adopted her October 31, 2010. She was named Beatrice, which means "bringer of joy," because she delights everyone she meets with her sweetness.
Beatrice needs your help.
She was found to have a severe bacterial infection in her mouth and needed 8 teeth extracted, testing, and medications. She has recovered from the surgery and the inside of her mouth is now fine, but the testing continues to determine what is going on with her health. Beatrice has scabbing, irritated skin around the outside of her mouth, eye, vulva, belly, and paws that has worsened each week. We still don't know if it is an autoimmune issue or a bacterial infection. By the instruction of a vet dermatologist, she is currently taking a new antibiotic and steroids. She needs to get another blood test and be seen by an internal medicine specialist.
(Beatrice 11/19/2013)
At this point, the cost of her mouth wash, antibiotics, blood work, hospitalization, pre-op screening, anesthesia, extractions, pain killers, biopsies, yeast infection medication, examinations, more antibiotics, and steroids so far: $2,706
This amount is way beyond my finances. I just lost two of my part-time jobs. I am a graduate student. I have no savings. I can't afford this on my own.
Friends... Family... Animal-Lovers, PLEASE DONATE!
Please make a donation of any size as often as you can. Every dollar helps this sweet little dog receive the medical care that she needs to be healthy and happy again.
Here are other ways you can help....
Please share this campaign to your Facebook, tweet it, blog about it, email your friends, family, co-workers, fellow animal-lovers and ask them to help save this little dog that has brought so much joy to so many people.

Getting worse
Update posted by brightmolly at 01:20 pmBeatrice as of 11/19/13 The antibiotics and the steroids haven't helped at all. We stopped the steroids. She has gotten another bloodwork to get a clue what's going on internally. The good news from that was that she doesn't seem to have hypothyroidism, which was a concern before. However,. . . . .
Skin is worsening. Trying a new antibiotic and steroids.
Update posted by brightmolly at 01:42 pmAfter a follow-up examination with my vet, Beatrice got an urgent visit with the vet dermatologist across the bay. Not sure if it is an autoimmune disease or a bacterial infection. We're now trying a new antibiotic and a dose of steroids. Taking it one day at a time. The
Teeth okay. Skin not.
Update posted by brightmolly at 03:38 pmHere's some photos from our morning medication session... Beatrice wrapped up like a burrito! I have the glove on for applying the ointment to her anus and vulva. I'm giving her the antibiotic first because she dislikes the taste. What a good little patient! I don't even have to hold. . . . .
Recovering
Update posted by brightmolly at 06:28 pmSo much gratitude to my roommate who cared for Beatrice and give her all her meds while I had to go out of town! Beatrice is recovering rather well. Her breath no longer smells like infection. Her energy levels are back to normal. She is no longer whimpering in pain,. . . . .
the damage
Update posted by brightmolly at 01:53 amOkay, so 8 teeth less and the cause of the severe infection is still unknown, but Beatrice seems to be managing alright. Already the infected area around her mouth is looking better. The nurse said that in her six years she's never seen an infection like this before. They took. . . . .
She's awake!
Update posted by brightmolly at 05:13 pmI got the call that she's awake from the anesthesia and the procedure went well. They took some biopsies and the vet is convinced that the issue is not cancerous. They did have to pull several teeth and they aren't entirely sure yet the cause of the infection - it. . . . .
Blood Test Results
Update posted by brightmolly at 01:30 amI got this email from the vet: Hi Molly:Please find enclosed Beatrice's blood reports from today. As you can see, many values are in normal range but few are concerning. I think her white cell count is high with Neutrohils @ 140007 (2060-10600) because of sever oral infection and gum. . . . .
