KING TUX is a crazy smart, 22 month old Standard Poodle and my Bff

In September, he suddenly began violently choking and vomiting. I rushed him to the ER. Every time he eats, King regurgitates food and cries. I puree all of his food and feed him in small amounts 5 times a day. Thousands of dollars (from my savings) in testing failed to reveal the cause.

I got King just prior to being downsized from my position of 12 years. I am also partially, permanently disabled now. I work about 8 hours per week and I'm trying to start a business. This takes a long time to get going.

I finally brought King to a specialist, Sean Yoshimoto D.V.M. (V.C.A. West Los Angeles Animal Hospital). He thinks he may have a stricture in his esophagus and needs to perform an expensive procedure, an endoscopy/dilation. King will most likely need several dilations all done under general anesthesia.

Turns out King's illness worsened and He had to have the endoscopy. No stricture was found, but he does have inflammatary bowel disease. The underlying cause is still unknown. He now will require ongoing treatment with meds/exams to see if he will improve. However, they still don't know what is causing him to regugitate his food either or have such difficulty swallowing. If he doesn't get better, more expensive testing will be performed.

I need to raise funds to treat King Tux so he can eat more normally and go back to being a healthy and happy dog. Anything you give, even one or two dollars will add up and help!

Please note: The invoices posted are only a sampling (only 4 images can be posted) and there are several more. Some of these have now been posted under the "comments" section.

King Tux was up all night and I was too!

Update posted by Jan Ferris at 10:33 pm

Last night, poor King Tux was up all night. He kept jumping off the bed to gag/regurg a little. I got a Pepcid AC into him around 3:40 AM. Just when I think he is doing much better, this happens. I think I need a second opinion.

King has the "trots"

Update posted by Jan Ferris at 12:57 am

King is now struggling with the runs. Just when he seems to be doing better, something else happens. This is the third bout and I suspect there may be something else wrong with him.

King Tux is still holding his own...

Update posted by Jan Ferris at 11:14 pm

King is maintaining his condition. I still find it difficult to watch him gag/hack when he eats and drinks. At least he's not any worse. He's also just as ornery as ever. This morning he counter surfed and pulled an entire carton of eggs off of the counter! He ate. . . . .

King is still "working it."

Update posted by Jan Ferris at 04:43 pm

King Tux continues to take meds. Today, he had a small episode of gulping and then hacking. He also did spit up a little bit. So, whatever he has, I don't know if it will ever go away for good. When he finally comes off of the meds, we may

King Tux' progress

Update posted by Jan Ferris at 02:45 pm

King has been on the lower dose of Prednisone for only a short time, so it may be a while before we see any difference. I weaned him back onto dry kibble and he still hacks and sometimes regurgitates. So, dry or pureed food didn't make a difference (neither did

  • King Tux and Costello are fellow Partiers, and were born the same time. I feel like we've watched King, and I want to see him well again. <3

  • Best of luck in your diagnosis and treatment. This donation is in memory of my dear 2 year old spoo Kevin. We received outside help from an online fundraiser and now I'm paying it forward. God Bless!
