Hello from Ohio. My sister, Saige, and I desperately need your help for our new puppy, Junior. Not too long ago, while donating newspapers to our local no-kill shelter, One Of A Kind Pets, we noticed a small scared little dog all by himself. We thought it was an Italian Greyhound found out that he was rescued after being dumped in a field with some other puppies. We begged our parents to adopt him and even promised to learn how to care for him. To our surprise, our father signed the papers to adopt him! We made our mother rush right over to the shelter to turn in the paperwork. His name is Junior Moretti; Junior because he's so tiny and Moretti because he's Italian.
Junior loves to run and play. Because he is an Italian Greyhound, he loves to run very fast. He's so happy when he runs. We love him so much.
However, a few weeks ago, Junior fell over, yelped out and could not walk or get up. Our father rushed him to emergency and we found out from the vet that Junior has Luxating Patellas ("floating knee caps") on his back legs and needed surgery as soon as possible to fix this problem.
Each knee will cost apx $2500 to fix. We had pet insurance but it would NOT cover Junior's problem because it is hereditary.
We have begun to raise money and have cancelled our vacation plans in order to save as much as we can, but Junior needs his first leg operated on NOW. We have put our fundraising goal at $2500 in order to have the surgery performed for the leg that is worse in April with the hopes that we will be able to earn the money ourselves for the second surgery 6 months from now. (please check out our photos) (we will update)
Time is against our little buddy. Please help.
Thank you.
