Our family is on the verge of losing our home to foreclosure unless we are able to raise the $8,000.00 needed to pay the mortgage by May 7, 2013.  As with so many, the past couple of years have been tough but, we always believed that we would be able to pull-through and get back on our feet, and we still believe that.  It's just taking longer than we expected and we're running out of time.  We are desperate, now.  If we aren't able to come up with the $8,000 needed to keep our home, we will be homeless and our 4 rescued dogs and 2 rescued cats will be homeless.  We have nowhere to go and no way to get there, since we sold our car and pickup truck 7 months ago in order to pay our mortgage so we could stay in our home, at that time.  We have been without a vehicle since last September.   We have sold everything of any value that we own, over the past several months, just to pay the utilities, buy food, and take care of our animals.  In December, our hot water heater stopped working.  Since then, we haven't been able to take a shower and have had to boil pots of water on the stove to take a bath and wash dishes.  Lately, we have had to turn to a local church for food donations.  We can live with all of this, while we work toward getting our situation straightened out, as long as we still have our home.  If we lose our house, we don't know what we will be able to do.  We are especially worried about what will become of our beautiful rescued pets if we lose our home.

We have a plan.

1) Save our house from foreclosure, either by a miracle, winning the lottery, or (hopefully) by the generous donations of friends and strangers.

2) Get my leg healed so I can wear my prosthesis and walk again.

3) Try to get a car so that I can go out and get a job.

4) Find a job that will pay enough so that we can make it until October, when David turns 62 and can start getting his retirement.

Our family consists of:

1) David, 61 year-old Vietnam veteran with the 101st Airborne Division (1969-72).  He started working when he was 8, helping his father in a dry cleaners and with his newspaper route.  He has worked ever since, mainly in the restaurant business and for the last 17 years in the US Postal Service, sorting mail and packages, up to 70 Lb., 40+ hours a week.  He has worked in pain from a back injury and knee problems for many years.  He has had surgery on his back and various treatments that have, at best, given only temporary relief.  Finally, last May, his body just couldn't take it anymore.  He had to stop working, with just 18 months remaining before he would be eligible for retirement.  He has not been able to get disability because he "can still stand and walk".  He is a very caring man.  He took care of his father when he was dying of cancer, giving him personal care at his home whenever he wasn't at work.  He also stayed by his mother's side for the last month of her life, after she had a severe stroke and never came home from the hospital or regained consciousness.  He believed she knew he was there with her.  He has always helped anyone he could, whether friend, family, or stranger.  He is very kind and considerate and has a great heart.

2) Linda, 57 year-old army veteran of the Vietnam and Cold War Eras, serving in many units, both stateside and overseas (1974-1987).   Linda is a below-knee amputee, due to being struck by a drunk driver when she was taking her, then 5 year-old, daughter to her neighborhood school on her bicycle.  This past year, she has had 3 different surgeries.  The last one was in January and she is still in a wheelchair, waiting for her leg to heal enough to be able to put her prosthetic leg back on and start walking again.

3) Tara, 16 year-old high school sophomore.  Tara had to go live with a relative in Kansas last year, when things started going bad here, with the plan that she would come home once we got everything straightened out.  We’re still waiting for that to happen.  This separation has been very hard on our family and our daughter wants to come home very badly and we want her home so badly.

4) Smokey, Sandy, JJ, and Flash: The dogs who have been rescued over the past 6 years.  They are all different and all very sweet and loving and are so dependent on David and Linda's care.

5) Sasha and Bobbie: The rescued cats who, even though they are more independent than the dogs, still would be lost without their home and their family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can offer.

A Big Thank You to 1 Generous Donor

Update posted by DAVID SMITH at 11:56 am

After setting-up this fundraising page and publicizing it on facebook and twitter, among others, exposing this need to nearly 2,000 people (or more with sharing), we have had ONE (1) very generous donor give $100.00 to help us toward the $8,000.00 needed to keep our home from being foreclosed.  I. . . . .
