Overwhelming Medical Bills

My friend and her husband recently lost their insurance coverage. They are older, but not old enough for Medicare. Her husband needs to have his prescriptions refilled within the next few days and wthey do not have the money to do that. With the insurance they had, they paid about $160 for the prescriptions. Without, it will cost them about $1,000. They live on a very fixed income and cannot afford these prescriptions right now. They are looking for new insurance but have not found anything yet.

He really needs these medications. Without them, he will end up in the hospital. They would not be able to afford that either without any insurance. Anything that you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Just a short update. My friend's husband was taken to the hopital today. His prescriptions ran out and he had no money to buy them. He is being medicated at the hospital and they will keep him there until he is stable enough to return home. Now they have a huge hospital bill to worry about. I am not sure how much more they can take.
