Living with Hepatitis C. (Treatment)

Hello, my name is Amanda. I live in San Diego. I'm 38 years old was diagnosed with Hep C. This is a hard pill to swallow since I did this to myself. I was a Heroin addict; I gave up on life. Up till a few years ago I didn't care if I lived or died. I went from being a great mom and a great wife to living in the streets of Tijuana not knowing if I was gonna wake up the next day. I was married to a man that was anything but a good husband/provider. I was abused mentally, emotionally, and physically.

This went on for 12+ years. In the beginning of 2003 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. That's what started my path on drugs. I was always a hard worker and the only provider in the household. After years of surgeries and finally being free of cancer, I developed an addiction to pain meds. To make a long story short, I went from prescription meds to Methadone to Heroin in a blink of an eye; as well as my ex-husband. I fed both our addictions. My life ended up in Tijuana, prostituting, and just giving up. Till one day, September 21, 2012, I woke up and had a moment of clarity (maybe not eating for a straight week and living off of Tijuana water did it).

I got myself, finally, across the boarder and into a hospital and into an inpatient rehab for 9 months. Fast forward to now, I have a home, a car, my boys live with me, and I'm free from abuse. I have a job and I'm never looking back. But now my wreckage from my past haunts me. I have Hep C. The genotype I have they do not have treatment for. I was told by my Dr. that I have under 5 years to get a new liver if I do not receive treatment. Let me clarify that. They do not have free clinical trials that I am a candidate for. I would have to pay for treatment. No insurance will cover me. The treatment in the US is from $100,000 to $168,000 dollars. Canada is my only hope to hopefully raise the money for the 12 week treatment I need. The cost is $60,000. I am in need of this treatment ASAP. I am also looking into car washes, bake sales, raffles and other ideas. If I recieve more, then I will be donating the rest to charity! Possibly will be starting my own charity for people that are going through what I'm having to go through. There is more deaths with people diagnosed with Hep C. than there are people living with AIDS every year.
