We’re raising money for our friend, Ngima Nuru Sherpa, and his village in the Himalayas (please see bottom of page for currency conversions).

THE BACKGROUND

Ngima Nuru Sherpa is well known amongst the climbing community as being one of the most experienced sherpa guides in the world. He has summited Mount Everest no less than 17 times and held the record for being the ‘Youngest Everest Summiteer’ for 15 years. We became friends after a chance meeting in the Himalayas last year.

THE PROBLEM

When the earthquake struck Nepal, Ngima was on an expedition to guide a team of climbers to summit Everest from the north. After a long and emotional journey back to his home in the remote sherpa mountain village of Thamo, he was devastated to find that his house and many others had been reduced to rubble. The village and its people have been very badly affected by the earthquake, as have most neighbouring villages in the region. As you can imagine aid is slow to reach such difficult-to-reach places where there are no roads or vehicles.

THE CAMPAIGN

Ngima and his community are strong, resilient people but they need direct aid and they need it now. We hope to raise as much money as we can for them so that Ngima can help his family, friends and community to rebuild their homes and their lives.

THE REASON

Sometimes people come along and touch your life unexpectedly. Our meeting with Ngima was brief but it was life changing. Every time I doubt myself I think of him - the mental and physical strength that it takes to climb Everest once, let alone 17 times - and somehow I draw on his strength and become more determined. Ngima doesn’t know he inspires me every day but I hope I can give back by helping him in his hour of need.

THE FINER DETAILS

All of the money raised in our campaign (aside from service/transfer/processing fees) will go direct to Ngima Nuru Sherpa. He is a very caring and responsible person and we know we can trust him to put your kindly donated money to excellent use wherever he sees fit. Thank you - or "dhanyabäd"! x

Fundraising Team

Hi, my name is Rachel (everyone calls me Cookie). I recently spent time in the Himalayas with my husband, Dave, trekking to Everest Base Camp. We met Ngima Nuru Sherpa as we were waiting to fly out of the mountains and were struck by his gentle manner and quiet confidence. When the earthquake struck we were relieved to hear that Ngima was safe but saddened that his village and home were destroyed. We want to help, so here we are :)
