Our chihuahua was born with her sister on 23rd October 2014. We were delighted and expected 2 puppies as we had a scan when mums was pregnant to make sure everything was ok. We soon become "mothers" to our puppies but encountered a problem when our little peanut ( she is the smallest of the two) was crying all night. We took her to the vets immediately and she told us she had a rare condition known as Atresi Ani type 3 and that she needed to be operated on immediately. Atresi ani meant she was born with no rectum and that the type 3 meant her intestine track was some distance away from from the rectum exit. She underwent surgey but the vet said that the next 24 hours were crucial. peanut made it through and had her stitches removed after 10 days we were delighted. She has healed well the vet said, but too well infact she has started to heal inside the hole we have made. we were told to insert a thermometer 3x a day, we did this and no better our little peanut was straining but with no release. we decided to take her to another vet who had more knowledge of this condition and she underwent another procedure where they stretched her anus in the hope she would be able to go to the toilet. again 2 days and nothing we went back and i asked for an x-ray she was indeed backed right up inside and was full of waste. the vet gave us lactulose and said if she does not go to the toilet in 24 hours she needs referring to a specialist hospital in Newmarket. she has not been to the toilet and we have indeed been referred. the consultation is 330.00 we have been told our surgery is going to cost £3000 and we need to raise this urgently as the longer this waste is inside of her the more irrepairable damage that will be done to her colon and could be fatal. please please help.
