Duncanrig Seconday School in East Kilbride is raising funds to send 14 6th formers to volunteer at the Luwero Community Project in Uganda.
The Luwero Project was established approx 12 years ago to look after a generation of aids orphans and very poor families in the area of Uganda. It currently consists of a Primary School, Secondary School, Orphanage, Clinic, Farm and Church . It has grown to its current size from just a well, a school and a church in 2002.
The volunteers will be involved in
- Teaching or helping in Luwero Primary School or Luwero Brilliant College School
- Looking after boarders and orphaned children
- General Maintenance and building work
- Farming
- Helping with or running youth programmes
Although this is a great opportunity for the sixth formers and Luwero to both understand the difficulties across the world and help in achieving the Luwero Project vision, there is a downside and that is the cost.
Currently it is anticipated that the cost will be £1500-£1800 per child. As this is prohibitive to most parents we are aiming to fundraise approximately £18,000 to bring the cost per head to approximately £500.
Any additional funds raised will be passed to the Lowero Project as a much needed donation to their funds.
Any donation no matter how small or large will be much appreciated.
Luwero Community Projects is a charity registered in Scotland established to promote the vision and work at Kiryanyonza village, Luwero, Uganda under Gabriel's leadership.
