Campaign Story
On Sunday 26th April 2015 I will be running the 13.1 mile Southampton Half Marathon to raise money for my work colleague's baby son, Alfie Butler.
On the 1st February 2015, at just 8 months old, Alfie was diagnosed with a level 3 aggressive cancerous brain tumour. Over the last 7 weeks Alfie has undergone an incredible amount of medical procedures, he has had a 13 hour brain surgery to remove the Tumour which heavily impacted on the nerves that control his eyes, the right hand side of his body and his ability to swallow. In addition to this he has had 4 other operations, 5 lumber punctures, had the stitches in his head replaced 3 times, he has a hole in his lung due to unsuccessful attempts for a pic-line, had a seizure as well as having a chest infection, sickness bug, an intolerance to any milk for over 25 days and has issues with secretions.
As you can imagine, life for Alfie and his family has been turned upside down since his diagnosis and he has a long road ahead of him in his recovery process. This will start with Chemotherapy every 14 days for the next year as he is too young for Radiotherapy. Alfie has been a regular on the paediatrics intensive care unit (PICU) and will eventually move to the Piam Brown Cancer Ward for the next 2-3 months. All this has of course has put tremendous strain on Alfie's parents Charlie and James, not forgetting his big brother Harry.
Being a father myself, I cannot comprehend receiving news like this about your child so out of the blue. He has already proved he is a strong little boy who is going to fight this every step of the way and I just want to do my bit to support him and his family.
All the money I raise will be passed onto the family for the future care needs of Alfie. Please support me by giving whatever you can, as every little (and big) donation will help enormously.
Thank you very much, Paul.

Exactly how do you do it mate? I walked to the fridge last night for another Stella and needed a lie down after. Good luck and well done in supporting a great cause. Steve F.

Well done mate. Personally thought you should have done a full marathon but happy to donate if you are happy to finish the 1/2 and then run back to the start. Good luck.
