In January 2010 I weighed in at just over 31 stone, my doctors told me at my heaviest recorded weight that I needed to take action before it was too late. The seriousness of my weight was putting strain on my body, my diabetes was becoming difficult to manage and I was in danger of a stroke or heart attack.

Summer of 2009 I went in to hospital with Cellulitus in my leg. I weighed 30st and had to sleep in a chair until they could find me a special bed that would take my weight.

After years of being comfortable with my weight because of the amazing friends and family I had around me who had always accepted me for whom and what I was, I took the decision it was time to sort myself out – for no one else’s sake, but myself.

On holiday in Spain summer 2010, still around 30st.

It was time to turn my life around, start eating the correct food, living a healthy life with a proper routine, joined a gym and started working with no goal other than to keep going. Since then I have lost just over 8 stone and continue to lose weight under the watchful eye of my Personal Trainer, Doctor and Diabetic Nurse.

A night on the town for my 28th birthday, still at around 30 stone.A night on the town for my 28th birthday, still at around 30 stone.

With the amount of weight I have lost my body has become very out of proportion, resulting in the majority of weight on my middle torso and causing an excessive amount of excess skin and a very out of shape/deformed torso.

The changing faces, as I started to lose my weight.

The National Health Service won’t consider me for funded surgery because I don’t meet their criteria, this is because of where the heavy excess skin and remaining body fat has caused an out of proportion body shape my BMI will never come within their remit.

I invite you to follow in my journey, as Ryan Croft documents the work I will undergo to reach my goal weight of 19 stone and then use you’re funding to pay for the corrective surgery.

Thank you for your support, this will change my life more than you could ever imagine.

Lofty :)
