Hello family and friends,

My name is Shambiera Rarsheer Ferrell; I am a twenty-one year old Senior at the Unsinkable Albany State University. I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Certificate in Latin American Studies. After college I plan on perusing my Master’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation. I would consider myself a rather good student, holding a 3.34 cumulative GPA. I am currently employed as a Spanish Peer Tutor, participate in many clubs and organizations (NAAP, Spanish Club, Bacchus & Gamma, etc.), and volunteer regularly around the city of Albany and occasionally around Metro-Atlanta.

This past semester I have been elected to participate in some wonderful, once in a lifetime, opportunities.

Programs

  1. Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges - I have been elected, along with 27 other students at Albany State University, to be a part of this elite group. Over the past 70 years, more than 2,000 colleges have adopted this program as part of their annual campus honors. The program was designed to recognize outstanding academic achievement and student leadership.  I will be recognized, in print, as an honoree in the Who's Who Book.
  2. Spain Study Abroad via the European Council - I have the opportunity to study at the Colegio Mayor de Padre Poveda this summer, July 4- August 9. In total, the program costs $5,000. This price includes tuition, flights, housing, etc. While in Madrid I will be taking two courses, World Religions and Spanish Mysticism, both classes will help bring me closer to Spanish culture and literature. As a study aboard student I will be immersed in the Spanish language for a little over a month, allowing me to further strengthen my Spanish reading, writing, and speaking abilities. This is my last opportunity to study abroad as an undergraduate student.

One of my primary goals in life is to travel the world and experience new things and cultures. I have begun applying for several Study Abroad Scholarships, including the Gilman Scholarship, and saving money from my job as a Peer Tutor to help fund my study abroad trip to Madrid, Spain, but I still need everyone’s help in reaching my goal of $5,000. EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS! No amount is too small. THANK YOU ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR THEIR LOVE AND SUPPORT IN ADVANCE! It is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
