Soccer For Change- Nicaragua

HERE'S THE STORY:

I am going to Granada, Nicaragua in January to volunteer with Soccer Without Borders, a wonderful organization that I am super passionate about and here's why:  

Soccer Without Borders uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change in the lives of 80 girls, ages 7-19 in Granada, Nicaragua. A team can be the most powerful change agent in a young girl's development, proven to inspire healthy choices regarding drugs, sex, alcohol, academics, and nutrition. This project provides soccer, team-building, life-skills, culture exchange, and civic engagement activities that support girls to make the healthy choices needed to achieve their goals.

There are 2 main reasons I am going on this trip:

1) Because I love the culture and people in Central America and can't wait to use my passion for soccer to be a small part of empowering the young girls there.

2) I hope to learn and be able to replicate parts of this program in a program I am starting locally in Marietta, called GOALS 4 Girls.   GOALS 4 Girls is going to be a free after school program, that provides underprivileged girls soccer training, academic assistance and valuable leadership and life skills that will foster their growth and empower them to reach their full potential as athletes and students. 

So, here I am, asking all my amazing friends and supporters, and  those who know first hand how a simple game like soccer can give a young girl the confidence to not only dream but go after and achieve her dreams to help.  Please consider making a donation today to help me reach my fundraising goal for this trip of $1200.    Also I am collecting new or gently used soccer gear to bring to Nicaragua and for our local GOALS 4 Girls program.
