Update 7

Update posted by Silvo Scruffy

Hello everyone!

Today we got a call from Oasis Vet telling us about the results of the ultrasound Scruffy did this week. He has bladder stones, bladder inflammation (likely caused by bacterial infection), kidney inflammation (hard to ascertain cause, one of it could be cancer), and a hernia.

The bladder stones and hernia require surgical attention. If we were to go ahead with the surgery, they would remove the stones, take a swab to grow the bacteria and see what it might be, as well as take a biopsy from the kidney.

Of course, it comes with risks as he’s an old boi and will have to be put under general anaesthesia. Even if he makes it through the surgery, his organs might start to fail. In the meantime, we are still giving it some consideration and are weighing the risks and benefits of surgery. Our intention is to minimise the suffering and pain Scruffy is experiencing right now, while giving him the best shot he has to live out his years. It’s definitely going to be a hard decision to make.

Tomorrow, we’ll be going to the vet to check Scruffy’s potassium levels to see if it has returned to a healthy level The vet will also be checking for any parasites he might have. We’re hoping to hear some good news soon.
