The problem?

The thawing of the permafrost is currently the biggest climate catastrophe. There are about 1,600 gigatons of carbon stored here. That is 2x as much carbon as in our atmosphere and 3x as much as in all the forests on Earth. If the permafrost continues to thaw, vast amounts of CO₂ and methane will rise into the atmosphere. This will irreversibly and exponentially accelerate global warming.

Solution.

To solve the problem, we support the Pleistocene concept, which is proving to be the most effective method for this. This concept is already being implemented in Pleistocene Park and is quite simple - a reintroduction of a wide variety of herbivores and the restoration of the once highly productive steppe tundra. Only through the perfect interaction of the two measures can the 4 positive effects on climate and environment be achieved:

1. preservation of permafrost soils

When foraging in winter, the animals destroy and compact the insulating snow layer. As a result, the cold enters deeper and faster into the ground and the permafrost soils are permanently preserved.

2. Active CO₂ binding.

The current prevailing vegetation is very inefficient. By restoring the highly productive steppe tundra, many times more CO₂ can be absorbed in the future. Thus, the park also acts as an efficient carbon capture and storage in the future.

3. Active cooling of the region through the albedo effect.

Through this effect, the steppe tundra reflects more incoming solar radiation than the current prevailing vegetation and thus does not contribute to environmental warming.

4. biodiversity

In the currently prevailing ecosystems, hardly any animals are found, except for swarms of mosquitoes. By reintroducing a wide variety of herbivores, biodiversity in the region will flourish again.
