Resuming chemo

Update posted by Javier Fabregat Degen

Elena has been recovering slowly after her surgery and she has finally resumed with the chemo rounds recently.

The doctors decided to delay the chemo for a few days after Elena got some fever after the surgery. She had the routine bloods taken for cultures, however the doctors were not able to find out where her fever was coming from. It could just have been Elena's body fighting something. What's more important, her leg wound didn't appear to be infected, which was a huge relief for all of us.

After that, Elena started developing a rash, which got quickly worse after just 24 hours. The doctors thought that it was most likely related to the fever she had had previously and that it could just be viral and resolve by itself.

A few days later Elena’s rash was still prevalent, but the redness started to reduce slightly. However the doctors decided to put chemo off again and wait until they were able to confirm the reasons for this reaction. They needed to make sure that whatever this was, it wouldn't interfere with the chemo drugs.

As soon as the doctors saw that Elena's rash was pretty much gone, they decided to proceed with chemo again - it was important not to delay it any further - and she is going through the first round currently. Her tummy hurts a bit from the chemo and she is feeling quite weak, but she is fine otherwise.

Because of Elena’s rash, she will need to be monitored for any reactions to drugs in the future.

Unfortunately all the issues which have delayed the chemo rounds now, have not allowed Elena to leave the hospital and spend even one day at home and sleep in her bed for almost one month now.

This has made Elena feel a bit unhappy and sad lately, however, overall she keeps showing resilience, strength and a calm attitude. She keeps impressing us everyday with the way she is facing this very tough journey!

Elena has 3 rounds of chemo left now and we are all hoping for the best outcome after that.

We wholeheartedly appreciate your ongoing support, messages and words of encouragement. We are deeply touched by so many signs of love and generosity with our daughter.

THANK YOU ❤️

Javier, Elena and family
