After an 9 hour surgery yesterday, it seems that everything went according to plan.

Our daughter had to have a muscle flap, where they take part of the calf muscle and flip it up to protect the implant as there wasn’t much soft tissue at the knee area. But this shouldn't be a major issue if the recovery goes well.

Elena is since last night in the ICU, where she’ll be for a few days. She couldn't almost sleep last night due to the obvious pain and discomfort with all the tubes and machines she’s connected to, but we are hoping the pain will become more stable and she can eventually be released to the general recovery ward soon.

The surgeons say that despite the pain and discomfort Elena is going through, she has been very strong and in good spirits throughout the entire process!
