(Update from the Parents

Today marks the first month of our twin daughters Kaylee and Kayla. Kaylee’s recovery from the previous surgery on her small intestine was pretty good. Thankfully, she had been extubated 16 days after the operation.

Currently, our daughter’s oxygen saturation levels still labile but the rest of the vital signs are within optimal range. Hence, they are still on CPAP(Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) to support with their breathing. Most of the days they are observed to be quite active and with much extra movements, they tend to lose weight as per doctors’ explanation. Kaylee is on continuous breastmilk feeding of 9 mLs/hour while Kayla is on 7.5 mLs/hour. Doctors maintain Kayla’s feeding of 7.5 mLs/hour to prevent fluid overload in view of her PDA(Patent Ductus Arteriosus). Ductus arteriosus is a persistent opening between the two major blood vessels leading from the heart. The opening(ductus arteriosus) is a normal part of a baby’s circulatory system in the womb that usually closes shortly after birth. If it remains open, it’s called a Patent Ductus Arteriosus(PDA). For now, the medical team are focusing more on their oxygen/breathing issues and their nutrition to facilitate weight gain/growth accordingly.

Finally, we were able to carry both of them. Initially, I and my wife were a bit anxious but nothing compares to the happiness we have felt when we held them in our arms for the first time. It’s fulfilling and looking forward to carry them every moment of the day.

Needless to say, we take one day at a time. With strong faith by the amazing grace of God and the people who wholeheartedly open their hearts to extend help and love with fervent prayers, everything works out and will fall into place. We are definitely uncertain what the future holds for us; merely God’s love and mercy is our absolute assurance.

To everyone who supported, prayed and took their time reaching out/checking on us during this difficult time, our words of gratitude is not enough but I believe God will continuosly bless you all abundantly in return.
