Project Horizons April Update

Update posted by Aksel Demir

Dear All;

I am very excited to announce that Project Horizons will be working with the U.S. based Chijnaya Foundation to install 40 irrigation kits in 5 picturesque villages in Puno, southern Peru. The Chijnaya Foundation works with rural communities to design and implement self-sustaining projects on issues including health, education, and economic development. In 2020, their economic development projects directly benefited more than 300 households, and this year, they've set ambitious plans to reach many more with projects on topics ranging from trout farming to group savings to tourism services.

These 40 kits will help 40 families increase their crop yields, learn efficient and sustainable ways to grow food, and decrease their reliance on store-bought foodstuffs. This is especially significant considering that the harsh climate of the Andean highlands only allows for one harvest per year, a fact that severely limits crop output. Our goal is to ensure that these families are able to secure a second harvest by using Horizons’ dripkits. The irrigation kits will arrive in Puno the second week of April, and will be installed after the current harvest season ends.
