An update by the surgeon

Update posted by Azahary Kamal

Dear Azahary,

This is Dr Sebastien from VES Hospital. As discussed over the phone, please find below a new estimate for Flo's surgery and hospitalisation.

First as mentioned, Flo is stable and has been more comfortable overnight. No vomiting is reported and his vitals are improved. He is as well more hydrated.

As for the costs we just discussed:
1. Estimate includive of initial work-up [blood tests, abdominal ultrasound], consultation, hospitalisation until this morning, anesthesia, surgery and biopsies to determine whether a chronic inflammatory bowel disease is present + 3 days of hospitalisation [estimated discharge Friday or Saturday] is capped at $5000 [minus your deposit].
2. This estimate is without major complications [for example in the even that there is dehiscence = the sutures at the time of surgery do not hold] and a second surgery is needed, it will not be included in this estimate. This risk is about 10%.
3. If you accept this estimate, surgery will be planned at lunch time. We will be placing a feeding tube to provide nutrition post surgery [started usually 12-24 hours post surgery]. This will as well allow to reduce costs by switching ro oral medications rapidly.
4. We will requesting an extra deposit to reach a total of 50% of this estimate, i.e $2500 [extra $1900] this evening when you visit Flo.

Please let me know if you accept this new estimate in writing and we will go ahead.

Best regards,
