White House Adopts HKDC's Demands and Priorities in Executive Order on Hong Kong
Update posted by Samuel ChuTrump Adopts HKDC’s Priorities in Executive Order on Hong Kong
WASHINGTON, DC (July 14, 2020) – HKDC has proposed and advocated several vital policies and executive actions to the Administration and Congress including sanctioning CCP and Hong Kong officials and banks, giving refugee status to Hong Kongers and suspending the US-Hong Kong extradition treaty. In the full text of the executive order on Hong Kong released shortly after the President’s press conference, the Administration adopted and approved all the major policy priorities proposed and advocated by HKDC, specifically:
Suspension of US’ extradition to Hong Kong:
“(e) give notice of intent to suspend the Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of Hong Kong for the Surrender of Fugitive Offenders (TIAS 98-121);
(f) give notice of intent to terminate the Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of Hong Kong for the Transfer of Sentenced Persons (TIAS 99-418);”
Refugee protection for Hong Kongers:
“(k) reallocate admissions within the refugee ceiling set by the annual Presidential Determination to residents of Hong Kong based on humanitarian concerns, to the extent feasible and consistent with applicable law;”
Additional sanctions against individuals:
“to be or have been involved, directly or indirectly, in the coercing, arresting, detaining, or imprisoning of individuals under the authority of, or to be or have been responsible for or involved in developing, adopting, or implementing, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Administrative Region”
HKDC applauds the adoption
of the above HKDC proposed priorities by the President and we urge the
Administration to work with HKDC and Congress to pass legislation giving new
protections to Hong Kongers fleeing and facing political persecution – as
proposed in the bipartisan Hong Kong Freedom and Choice Act and Hong Kong Safe
Harbor Act, as well as the bipartisan Hong Kong amendment to the NDAA led by
Rep. Curtis and Rep. Malinowski. This legislation currently in
Congress, if enacted, would maintain Hong Kong’s autonomy status for the
purposes of immigration – a critical lifeline for Hong Kongers now the city’s
special status has been revoked.
America must hold the CCP accountable, and America must never abandon the people of Hong Kong.
