Dr. Purnima on the health situation in Kirtipur, Nepal

Update posted by Gisela W

Bal Krishna Maharjan recorded this interview with Dr. Purnima to give us some insights into the current situation in Kirtipur, located next to Nepals' capital Kathmandu.

The Medical Response Team is working hard to make sure the situation is not getting worse. However, lockdown will last at least until May 18 and there are 191 COVID-cases right now. About 60 cases more than yesterday. This might be just the beginning and there is a huge need in PPE.

"Kathmandu cannot micromanage all ground level problems, local governments must be given the authority and the resources to act. Medical care workers need personal protective equipment (PPE), we need more ventilators and isolation wards so that they do not have to risk their lives while saving the lives of the sick " (www.nepalitimes.com/editorial/lockdown-fallout/)
