We rescued Gatto (orange cat)

Update posted by Martina Russo

Hey everyone, thank you SO MUCH for all your help, we are so grateful!

We couldn't go see the cats for 2 weeks due to quarantine and lockdown. When we did manage to go a few days ago, unfortunately, the orange cat was in these conditions – unable to walk due to a broken leg (probably run over by a car) and in an extremely poor state, so much so that he wouldn't even eat:

We decided to focus our efforts on this one (as the other two seemed in a much better state; also they run away when we approach them, while this one – which we will call Gatto, i.e. cat in Italian – comes right toward us, purrs, and wants to headbutt!

Catching him was very easy, he was too weak to even try and escape, but he also just purred all the way and was simply happy to be touched!

The news from the vet weren't good. He is suffering from:

• Lung infection
• Broken leg
• Dislocated kneecap
• Blind in one eye (permanent)
• Missing teeth
• Empty intestine and stomach (from not eating for too long)
• A BULLET inside his body!
• And, unfortunately, he has FIV.

We were supposed to leave him with the local rescue association, but the fact he has FIV means he can't be around other cats.

Out of options, we decided to temporarily keep him in a large carrier with litter tray and food / water bowl, set up in our tent in the only area that stays in the shade 24/7, to help him recover.

We are hoping to bring him back to health with all your generous donations 😍 and then hopefully find him a family who's looking to adopt a sweet, loving special needs cat who was probably abused and abandoned 💔
