Cleanup last weekend

Update posted by Zoe Dayan

In a long, hot cleanup last weekend, we cleared over 3 tonnes of rubbish!

The kids collected the plastic and other waste from the common areas and left behind after the burning, the families helped to dig two new storm gutters, and the local environmental services did an amazing job wading and cleaning sludge from the channels (that's the permission letter attached).

If the village builds a waste storage up on 'higher ground' and arranges house-to-house collection, the city environmental services have said they'll collect twice a week. That would be AMAZING! This community has never had that basic service.

They need metal for, effectively, a big skip ... and to hire a welder. And 4 wheels and some decent wood to make carts.

We got support from some medical students too - and they ran a corona-virus awareness session at the end. The city workers learned as much as the families - so it was well worthwhile :-)
