Australia bushfires: 480 million animals, 8000 koalas killed by fires
Update posted by Angie ChinThe Australian bushfires which have ravaged the country since September are having a devastating impact on wildlife populations.
Ecologists from the University of Sydney estimate 480 million mammals, birds and reptiles have died due to the fires. Among these, 8000 koalas are believed to have burnt to death - nearly one third of the entire koala population in New South Wales (NSW).
