Update posted by Asia Maris Aportadera

These past few days I’ve been lucky enough to enter the NICU to bond with and breastfeed Mimi. Her tests are coming back with normal results. She has a visit from an endocrinologist scheduled today and the doctors and nurses on her team are telling me to be patient, as she has to finish her treatment before they discharge her. They are reluctant to tell me how long it will take, but every day I see her thrive is a gift beyond measure.

Thank you everyone for your extraordinary kindness towards me and my family. I am so touched and grateful for all of you. To everyone who has given us monetary support, I can’t thank you enough. Here in Peru, they request to add money to the deposit every few days and it’s nerve wracking when you have nothing to give. We are so blessed by your generosity.

Thank you for all the messages and calls of support and concern, and for sharing your own stories and struggles with me. Thank you most of all for all the prayers. God is so good and he listened to all our prayers, kept her safe and was with her every single minute.

I’m not allowed to bring my phone into the NICU, but I can tell you all Mimi is regaining her lost weight and is active, alert and demanding! Holding my daughter in my arms is hands down the best feeling in the entire world. Her dad and I can’t thank you all enough. We never will be able to! You helped to save her life, and thousands of words will never be able to explain how much that means to us.
