Update on the status of the children

Update posted by Gerhard Joubert

Hi everyone.

We have recieved overwhelming support from all of you. I cannot believe that so many people would help so willingly. I am stunned and all I can say is thank you!!! I cant say it enough.

We took the kids that were sent home for xrays and checkups today as well as wound cleaning and stitching at Montana Hospital in Pretoria who were incredibly helpful and accommodating. None of the kids have broken or fractured bones!!!! This is incredible news considering the state of the vehicle they were in.

The one little boy that stayed in Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria went for surgery this morning and it went well. They managed to save his eye which was a big concern. It is unknown how much use of his eye he will have but things are promising. Apart from some scarring on his face he should recover fully. They also managed to reconstruct his cheek bones and he will be discharged on sunday hopefully. After that we will take him to Montana hospital for a checkup as well. Once his eye has healed we will be able to take him to an optometrist.

Also due to the support we have received we will be able to send the kids for regular wound cleaning as well as replace the school clothes that were damaged and destroyed during the accident.

I have personally recieved so many emails of support which I'm extremely grateful for. It really warms my heart and gives me faith in humanity again. As the support grows so the parents are completely blown away. They are not used to having support and help at all. Tears of joy have been shed all day.

I am trying to reply personally to everyone who contacted me as soon as I can. It's been an amazing and busy day. 😁😁

Thank you again!!
