A new arrival at the sanctuary.

Update posted by Rececca Biderman

There's been a new permanent member join the flock.

This African Grey goes by the name Jako. Jako is Hebrew for African Grey, so in all honesty this bird has no name.

Jako is blind in one eye from an infection that cause him to loose sight in this eye. Because he's lost the vision in that eye his balance is off. He has trouble stepping from the bars of the cage back to his perch. He has walked off his perch when moving to his left (his left eye is blind). He doesn't like to be on the floor because of his balance. He will not hold his food in his foot because of his blind eye. I have a lot of sympathy for Jako because while legally blind my dad began to loose his balance as the rest of his vision was lost with age. It's amazing how our eyes were created to work in harmony and when that harmony is lost we suffer. Jako is a handicapped parrot.

You can be part of this Grey's process by donating to build the needed aviary. The person who donates the largest sum during the campaign will get to choose a 'nice' name for Jako.

I've recently created a youtube channel for the Sanctuary that I will upload videos to, the first one is linked here.
