Out of the ICU: 5 Days Post-Op Update

Update posted by Nian Cruz

One day after her operation, Mommy Nene started complaining that she feels uneasy and uncomfortable but is not in any pain. We immediately alerted the doctors and nurses but since there isn't any pain or any trigger point for them to start looking at, we were asked to closely monitor and observe. She wasn't able to sleep during that night and complained consistently that she doesn't know where to place herself.

Diko Ned and I took turns in watching over her, turning her from time to time and ensured she isn't in any pain or doesn't have any other complaints. Her Cardiologist, Dr. Tin Hay (Highly recommended, guys, btw! Super thank you, Doc!) and his team monitored her condition early Sunday morning until afternoon. They suspected too many fluids are being ingested by her body and fluid might be building up in her lungs. They were also watching out for her heart, as her heart rate jumps up so high it limits her breathing. She was placed on oxygen support, but it didn't ease what she was feeling. It was easily one of the longest nights we've had - and we were on the verge of panicking, had it not been for my cousins Ate Badet and Ate Faye who were all the way in Daly City, telling me what to ask the doctors and what to basically do. Dr. Tin Hay visited Mommy Nene 3 times on Sunday morning, assigned a specific senior nurse to look after her, and recommended a really good nephro doctor, Dr. Rachel Chua, to monitor her kidneys.

Her surgeon and cardiologist both decided to transfer her to the ICU, to better monitor all her vital signs and be given extra care and attention. They lowered down her fluid intake through IVs - and soon enough, she finally was able to go to sleep and was not feeling uneasy or uncomfortable anymore. We have nothing but love and appreciation for her whole medical team and to Dr. Samuel Ang and Dr. Eduardo Tin Hay for being on top of our mom's delicate condition and reassuring us that everything will be alright.

This is Mommy Nene the night before her transfer to a regular room after a few days stay in the ICU. She insisted I set up some sort of filter because she looks "too sick" without it. Don't you love her bunny ears? :)

She is now back in a regular room, can breathe freely without oxygen support, and already has the go signal to be on a general liquid diet. My Diko and I are finding a way how to liquefy Red Ribbon's Butter Mamon... do you have any idea how? Just kidding. :)

We are again so grateful for all the prayers and support you've sent our way!
