Treatment progress

Update posted by Pavlo Arutin

Here is to keep you all up to date concerning Alex's brain tumor treatment. The surgery on tumor resection was conducted in Istanbul, Turkey and went quite well. As neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Nejat Akalan from Medipol University Hospital admitted the tumor resection went as well as it could be under consideration tumor type , its size and location. Quite big part of the tumor has been taken out for further patology and micro biology examination so that to come up with further treatment plan. However as there are some tumor remainders are left there, the further treatment plans is definitely unavoidable. Due to eye nerves tumor nature and very near proximity to eyes fibres were no rationales behind full tumor removal at this moment without having considerable complications on visionary capabilities. Thus problem still remains as the only part of tumor was removed , however another part will still potentially lead to recurrence over some period of the time. The only good news are this tumor is benign by genetics.
Neurosurgeon advised do not undertake any follow up as radiotherapy or chemotherapy at this moment as immediate post surgery actions due to Alex very young age and considerable side effects they might expose. Instead family was guided to closely monitor tumor"s development conditions by making MRI imaging check in the near future to have more clear view on his further treatment by then .
My son Alex was a very strong fighter. He will be able to come through his difficulties, of course . Recovery will be a long pathway but it sounds as the hardest part is behind. We all pray Alex will make the best possible recovery.

Thanks to you my family no longer feel alone and fully optimistic to keep up struggling for Alex's full recovery. What you all have done is incredibly valuable!
