Aya's 3rd Week: Blood Transfusion

Update posted by Jencel Marie Marcial-Anguluan

Last night, Jan 2, we received a call from the NICU nurse about Aya's need for a blood transfusion. Her doctor asked for a CBC and the results came back with a low red blood cell count. She had been pale, and this may also be the reason why she was having apnea episodes (she stops breathing) and sometimes her oxygen level is low.

Since she's a premature baby, we had to move fast so there will be no grave complications. Less than 5 days old O+ blood was needed from 2 donors. Grateful for dear friends Benedict San Jose and Ysabelle Lorenzo Nina, who immediately came to the rescue and donated blood for Aya, and to Issa Osj and SweetSheryl Ingente-Valencerina (with kids in tow) for visiting and showing support. Words are not enough to express our gratitude not only for the blood, but for the time and effort. THANK YOU!

Two units had been transfused today, Jan 3, and one more to be given tomorrow morning. Aya's color is better and her skin has a healthier glow. Here she is, with her left foot up and showing off her hep-lock.

We hope that this will be the only heart-stopping surprise from Aya and that she recovers well soon. Thank you for the continuous prayers and support to our campaign to bring baby Aya home. <3 😊

Love,

Mommy Jeng
