About Me

Update posted by Raeesa Ebrahim

I'm an almost 37 year old mum. I have been blessed with two wonderful children. My Mum, husband and family are my reason for living, my reason for being.

My 8 year nightmare started on the 01st of October 2010. In the middle of my final year of undergraduate Business and Commerce Studies, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. With the love and support of my family, the expertise of my Dr's and most of all with God's grace I Breast Cancer. Fighting through 6 rounds of high dose chemotherapy, a Masctectomy(complete breast removal) and 6 weeks of Radiation, I rejoiced. I emerged, a stronger, more loving being. I gave more, I enjoyed more and I appreciated every moment of every day. My children became my main focus. At the age of 28 life had taught me just how much my kids needed their mum. I spent 4 years in remission.

In September of 2014, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia also known as AML. My blood had 85%of blast(cancer cells). My read blood count was extremely low and my platelets(responsible for blood clotting) was almost non existent. I got admitted emmediately, not realizing that I was stepping into a grueling 6 months of hospital stays and horrid chemotherapy. I beat this too, but I only bought another 4 years, before I relapsed and was once again diagnosed with Leukemia. This time though, I am in need of a life saving Bone Marrow Transplant. For this my mum and I had to relocate, from Pretoria to Cape Town, where my doctors are trying to find me a suitable match for a transplant. I have been separated from my kids, who are in Pretoria, with my husband, for 3 months. Upholding 2 households and mounting medical expenses have really caused us to need to start this page and appeal for help. My 15 year old son has been tested as I need the transplant desperately and we cannot find suitable donors. Searching on the international database cost approximately R100 000. Securing a donor cost another R300 000. Being 1700km away from home, paying rental and expenses in Cape Town for 6 months costs in excess of R300 000. It's sad that in order to live, I. Order to fight this disease and most of all in order to give my husband his wife back, my mum, her daughter back and my kids their healthy mum back, will cost us a million Rand. That is around $100 000. Please assist me and my family as we battle mounting expenses. Please assist in saving my life....
