Counselling those who cannot afford it

Update posted by Neil Collins

To whom it may concern.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this letter.

My name is Neil Collins. I'm an Ordained Minister and lay-counsellor that works as a volunteer in Port Elizabeth, providing free counselling to those who cannot afford it.

This can be anything from marriage counselling to counselling those who struggle with drug abuse, but my speciality is trauma counselling and suicide intervention. I am also involved in facilitating and training courses through an organization called Revive. I believe that God has called me to this ministry because churches have their hands full trying to help others grow spiritually, but they do not always have the time and training to deal with the multitude of people who need help with the emotional side of life. In the four years that I have been involved with this ministry I have seen many lives changed and families restored.

Because the ministry is aimed at helping those who normally cannot afford to get counselling, we have lived on the gracious financial gifts of our sponsors. But as we all know life is not cheap and I had to show people away because I just could not get to them due to the lack of finances. That is why I am writing this letter to you. This will enable me to get to more people who need this live changing service.

I humbly ask that you will think about this and also keep us in your prayers for it isn’t always an easy ministry
.
