Day 1; Turku | Finland

Update posted by Kiran Kreer

Just two days ago I was in a capital city, Kuala Lumpur, with concrete buildings, construction work and rush hours. From a city where I grew up, nine thousand kilometres away and four flights later, I find myself in the urban sailing town. Nested in the southwest coast of Finland, 160km from Helsinki, my new home Turku.

It's been two days now, and I finally feel like I'm here. My soul has arrived in Europe, with a beautiful family of friends, welcoming me with an apple tree in our backyard, Irina making morning coffee and feeling the cold autumn winds. Yes it's cold here, winds from the coastal city but I will get use to it. Also I realised, I may have forgotten to bring a jacket along, but Seila and I will be heading to a thrift store to get a used one. She says it will cost about 10 euros.

Day one in Finland, I woke up in this strange town, went out to feel the warm sun, dark blue skies, with this new inner feeling of life, a magical nature around me, so green and so blissful. An apple tree as my shade, it was a strange experience just eating apples of this tree. But it made me feel like I'm finally made it into a home I always dreamt about.

My journey across Europe has begun. Soon I’ll be sharing more stories and tales of those I meet.
