The first life saved

Update posted by Bolivia Digna

The project “La Casa de los Niños” has started with the encounter of a 2 years girl, Daniela O. (fantasy name) HIV positive in a hospital in Cochabamba. When the founder was working in the hospital, the SeDeGeS (Servicio Departamental de Gestión Social – Departmental Social Services) asked him if he could find any place where the girl could have been looked after, where her rehabilitation could have taken place.

Moreover, Daniela had been separated from the mother for childcare reasons: the mother, herself affected by HIV, had psychological issues and could not look after her young daughter.

Firstly, a place managed by a Catholic organization had been suggested, but it turned out that they were only working with adults, not children affected by HIV.

Therefore, the girl went to “La Casa de los Niños” and that is how this wonderful project started!

Luckily, the foundation had already bought the area when the community lives today.

The help provided to the hospital and the safe place for the young girl, gave to the foundation a certain trust from the hospital, that from now on would keep in contact with them, whenever they are in need of a place for kids with grave diseases. Sometimes the contact came directly from the doctors themselves.

Kids like Daniela, HIV affected, need a place to stay while being cured and money for the medicines to get through the disease. “La Casa de los Niños” provided the both. They are doing the same with every other kids, as much as possible. Daniela lived at the Casa de los Niños for a month, after which her family was found. The mother, Daniela and her older sister were the first family living what today is the community in place.

Now, after 10 years, Daniela and her family are living together outside the community, with the mother working within the current community!

Today there are more kids requiring your help.

That is how good you can do with your help, save a life of a young girl and reunite her family!
