Steve Newman

Update posted by Mark Stevenson

Steve is one of the most amazing guitarists and musicians around and I was lucky enough to meet him many years ago. He recently had an eye op which was successful for a while, but he is now unable to see much at all. Lets help him get the operation he needs.

Eye Update

Huge thanks to Dr Faul and his team at the Garden Route Eye Clinic, The Barleycorn, The False bay Folk Club, The String and Whistle, the Fireclub/Four Winds, The George Lions and all contributors. The op was very successful and it was very exciting for me to have better vision, however on Saturday the 1st September while playing at the Oyster Wine and Food Festival near Fourways in the late afternoon my vision suddenly deteriorated to an almost pre op state. The last set I couldn't see the neck of my guitar and see faces only light and shade, silhouettes. My son Jai and I landed in George at midday today the 3rd of September and went straight to the eye clinic where the doctor discovered blood in the eye and recommended an operation which would cost at rock bottom discount price of R35,000. This op could improve the vision and make it clear whether the retina is detached or not. The retina op would also cost rock bottom discount price of R35,000. But the doctor did suggest that I go to a state hospital which would be less pricey. this post was typed by my son Jai as I can't read or type at the moment.
