Making History: We Announced a Campaign to Support Immigrant Families
Update posted by San Diego Organizing Project On Nov 20

On Friday, Oct. 5, we invited people across the nation to help us send a larger-than-life message of hope to immigrants and refugees.

We launched a $1 million fundraising campaign to build a 40-foot sculpture of Mary in the likeness of the Statue of Liberty. Sculpture artist Jim Bliesner, pictured above, presented a small-scale model of the monument, titled "Welcome the Stranger."

Colorful Ribbons Represented Loved Ones Affected by Immigration Policy

Members of our San Ysidro community wrote the names of loved ones who have been affected by inhumane immigration policy on colorful ribbons.

Together, we tied each of these ribbons to a fence overlooking the border to dedicate the site of the Welcome the Stranger sculpture.

We expect the 40-foot sculpture to be finished at the San Ysidro hilltop at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in early 2019.
