Update posted by SALVE CORTEZ

I’m Salve Macedonio Cortez my sister Mary Ann Macedonio Obingayan or commonly called “Mana”, just recently celebrated her 46 years birthday, mother of 2 from Homapon, Legazpi City (Bicol), Philippines. She is a civil engineer by profession; she looks healthy and goes to her work regularly except for complaint of on and off head ache. Three months ago she had been diagnosed of severe hearing loss on her right ear. Thus she was referred by her ENT Doctor for MRI.She had undergone the MRI procedure as required by the doctor.

Her MRI result was released on her birthday, May 26.The reading was then explained and were told that my sister has a large posterior fossa tumor extending to the base of the brain and upwards to the suprasellar regions (meningioma). It is a benign tumor (not cancerous) and should be excised in circumstances where the monitoring of brain function is complete. Thus, her neurosurgeon advised her to seek treatment in abroad where the neurosurgeons are completely equipped with these safeguards to ensure that she does not lose any vital function during this especially difficult surgery.

We are having second opinion to further check all possibilities. My sister has been denied again by the specialist (does not perform operation for case like hers due to limited equipment) she had visited a private hospital in Manila. We were however advised to visit private hospitals in QC and Makati if the procedure could be done in either of the two hospitals. For now, we are left to the remaining two options, but we were told that, in the Philippines, there is really no Hospital that has this kind of machine/equipment that would monitor her brain functioning and other vital nerves while being operated on.

My sister really needs this special surgery and financial help from all of you out there who has extra means to provide assistance for this urgent case.

This is a life-threatening case. And immediate action should be done. The surgical risks are incapacitating brain damage, paralysis and complete vision loss if done here in the Philippines due to limited equipment.

Please help us save the life of my sister. She is still very young and productive person and has also help a lot of relatives in times of their financial crisis. Because of huge financial/ medical cost abroad, our family needs assistance from all of you. We were advised to prepare at least 4 Million Pesos or 75,700 US Dollars. Your generous assistance will bring hope to my sister to live a normal life after brain surgery. Thank you very much in advance!
